Questions and Answers
The following are questions we regularly receive from members of the public....
Where can I get an insurance quotation? Lloyd's is a market place in which many syndicates underwrite insurance business of different kinds. Generally, business is brought to the market by Lloyd's Brokers who select the syndicates they consider offer suitable cover and then negotiate terms on their clients' behalf. To obtain an insurance quotation, you will need to contact a Lloyd's Broker or an insurance intermediary which places business at Lloyd's through a Lloyd's Broker. If you need help with this, we suggest you contact the London & International Insurance Brokers' Association (LIIBA) or the British Insurance Brokers' Association. Where can I find a Lloyd's Broker? Should you require the services of a Lloyd's Broker or are trying to trace a Lloyd's Broker, we suggest that you either visit the directory of Brokers available on Lloyd's website or contact the London International Insurance Brokers' Association (LIIBA). I need advice on shares or information on my bank account Lloyd's is not Lloyds. The LMA is an insurance trade association acting for its members in the Lloyd's underwriting market. If your enquiry is about any other financial service products it is likely you require Lloyds, the banking group. I have a product or service which may interest Lloyd's Underwriters. Does the LMA give endorsements or recommendations to its members? We are always keen to hear about new technology, new products and new services, but the LMA will not provide endorsements. If we feel the product or service is potentially of interest to our members we may, at our discretion, pass details to them for them to contact the supplier should they wish. We will not provide suppliers with a list of our members or other contacts. How can I find out more about the insurance industry? The largest professional and educational organisation in the global insurance and financial services industry today is the Chartered Insurance Institute. The Institute has one of the most comprehensive libraries on insurance in the world. The Lloyd's website also contains information that you may find useful. How can I trace historical information about a ship? See our conrtact Details Lloyd's does not hold historical records (e.g. crew lists, passenger lists, old copies of Lloyd's List or its historical losses books). The losses books and historical copies of Lloyd's List are held in the Principal Reference Library at the Guildhall Library, London. Other information on shipping lines and vessels can be obtained from Lloyd's Register. I need a wording translated into another language The LMA and its predecessor associations have produced a limited number of policy wordings and clauses in foreign languages (or have obtained a translation of a form from English into a foreign language).
This was usually because the wording or clause was designed specifically for use in foreign jurisdictions, or in foreign language documents, and where the requirement for the foreign language version was marketwide and confirmed by the relevant LMA Committee or Business Panel.
The Lloyd's Wordings Repository, a subscription service containing LMA and other wordings and clauses in common use in the Market, includes a range of foreign language wordings and translations.
We regret that, other than in these circumstances (and then only at the discretion of the LMA), we do not produce or make available policy wordings or clauses in foreign languages and are unable to offer translations of LMA forms or check or approve translations by others.
